Mariah Carey, one of the best-selling artists of all time, was nominated for a leading eight awards for "The Emancipation of Mimi." The three awards that she did win were all handed out in the pre-telecast ceremony.

Will Mariah Carey Beat Kanye West At The Grammy Awards ?

Kanye West talks because he likes the sound of his own voice, but he usually has other reasons too. He is talking about how he deserves to win the best album Grammy over Mariah Carey and being really obnoxious about it. It's pretty smart for him because that way the story the next day is about him whether he wins or loses. Here's his monologue in Rolling Stone:

"I think a lot of people are gonna get behind Mariah because of the comeback story. Not to discredit her at all, but I think I deserve it over her, because Gold Digger sounds like nothing you've heard before. Diamonds (From Sierra Leone) doesn't sound like something you've heard before. And I stand by that statement, and I'm gonna say that to the end. And statements like that could be the very reason why she possibly could win over me."
